Skull Maggots - day 9

welcome to my day 9 Friends!

After seeing my Ingredient Cards laid together yesterday and sort of stewing over how I'll be presenting them as a whole, I thought it would be good to add in a few cards with a bit less dimension. Hopefully my layered heart can get over it! :) so where today's project might not be very technique and or labor intensive, I'm still excited to show you the fourth of my Ingredient Cards... SKULL MAGGOTS :

dun dun DUN!!!!!!!! I love how it turned out :) And I feel like it could be the front of some funky 80's SciFi novel or something! The base is, of course, Canson watercolor paper. It's been layered with a trimmed down piece of patterned paper from my Destination Unknown line for 7 Dots Studio.

The Destination Unknown paper was trimmed down and then stamped with the Waybill/Invoice Background from Viva Las VegaStamps!. It was stamped in Ranger archival black, but to tone it down I dabbed the stamp on the ink pad and then blotted it on some scrap paper so that I was stamping with a ghosted image on the card background. It gave the card a great worn look. Then it was machine sewn to the card.

I stamped the Elegant Lady Face from Viva Las VegaStamps! on bristol board in Ranger's Archival ink and fussy cut her out. Then.. I chopped off the top of her head! lol. The Detailed Brain was stamped on that same vintage book text I've been using for the ingredient cards. I trimmed it out also, then tucked it behind my Vintage Lady so that her brains are now exposed.

I glued everything down and then finished the card with the Skull Maggots stamp from last year's Halloween release. The Bristol board is proving great for stamping and really seems to hold up to wet glue, too. Believe it or not.. no UmWowStudio on this card. Sad right? haha :)

Mr GQ {A 12x12 Layout}

UmWowStudio is sponsoring an awesome Online Crop with our friends @ Paper Issues this weekend.

 Prize : Winner will receive a $30 gift certificate to UmWowStudio (www.umwowstudio.com) open internationally!

The 7 pm EST challenge is ours to the community and we challenge you to...

STENCIL IT--

Create any project of your choice and use a STENCIL. It could be in the background, on an embellishment or even as the sentiment/title. Just make sure your stencil is PROMINENT.

I have scrapped my little guy in this deliciously hilarious pose on a 12x12 layout. The stencil is an UmWowStudio chunky circles stencil used in the background with a nice heavy gesso.

I haven't SCRAPPED anything using my Destination Unknown line for 7 Dots Studio yet and it seemed like this photo was just CALLING for it. So the background piece is the backside of Walk The Plank.

Here's a closeup of the background word including gesso through the Chunky Circles stencil by UmWowStudio, and the Handwriting Triangles stamp I designed for Viva Las VegaStamps!. I stamped in Archival Ink by Ranger. There's also some Charcoal glimmer mist by Tattered Angels.. it's a nice dark black with a hint of navy blue mica.

There's washi tape in the background and over the photo as well as a Tape X from Viva Las VegaStamps!, Nautical Star and Star Confetti chipboard pieces from UmWowStudio. The chipboard has been covered in the same gesso that was used in the background. The Arrow and striped Frame are from Heidi Swapp -- both picked up in the Paper Issues online store.

The title is also from Heidi Swapp's collection and the date stamp is American Crafts I believe.

The last little bit of this layout is the bottom corner put together using pieces from a Paper Issues Swag Bag, Fancy Pants corrugated cardboard, Tim Holtz/Sizzix Mover and Shaper die, Tim Holtz Arrow and Tiny Attacher, the Writing Triangles stamp,  and the other half of that Heidi Swapp frame.

All You Need Is Love {Hearts Challenge @ 7DS}

There's a new challenge @ 7 Dots Studio all about HEARTS. And you should really stop by to see all the wonderful projects by the talented design team. One of my favorite things about designing paper for 7 Dots Studio is seeing all that talent USE the paper :)

To inspire you I've altered a paper mache heart I picked up from Joann. It was so cute in the $1 bin, and I thought it was perfect for the season of love :)

The base has been dry brushed with Gesso and a pink color of Acrylic paint. I heat set the paints then stamped the invoice piece from Thoughts Keeper's Acrylic stamps in archival ink. It helped create a nice grounded background for layering on.

Then I layered up and embellished some pink, gray and cream pretties including a Destination Unknown Tag, a Soulmates Sticker Element and a sticker from the Soulmates words from 7 Dots Studio. I also used a diecut heart from an old atlas cut by Sizzix / Tim Holtz mover n shaper die, some May Arts Ribbons, a pink button and a beautiful Prima Marketing flower.

SPARK >> A Destination Unknown Christmas Tree

YAAAAAAAAY for Christmas Decor.

Have you seen the Margie Romney-Aslett SPARK classes? They are CHOCK full of goodness and I'm so glad my friend Michelle introduced me. I joined for the Christmas 2014 Spark goodness and was definitely SPARKED into create mode. One of Margie's beautiful projects was a sort of ticket / sparkly tree. As much as I enjoy metallics my home decor for Christmas is a little more WINTERY based with blues, silvers and whites on top of black. So I took my SPARK from Margie and created this:

I did enjoy the looks of Margie's trees with tickets, but I didn't like the little spurts of color that came on all of the tickets I found. Red was really not in my scheme, and every ticket I found had a red line on it. No worries! I just made my own!!

My tickets were made by stamping an Admit One Ticket stamp from Viva Las VegaStamps! that I designed a ways back. I stamped it on my new Destination Unknown collection for 7 Dots Studio, the turquoise sheets from the 6x6 pack. I stamped over and over in archival black by ranger, then fussy cut out each ticket.

I just learned about these JUNK BOWS from Margie and Michelle, too>> Um YUM! I finished off my tree with a bow of old atlas papers, three different May Arts Ribbons and some tiny jingle bells.

The rest of my scene is made from some Tim Holtz Wonderland trees, mini ornaments, a mercury glass... well glass (votive holder) and some little train trees that have been dipped in gesso and covered in Finnabair's Glass and Fine Glitter for Prima Marketing. It's all been stationed on a piece that I created, too >> a couple of vintage dish setting pieces glued together! I'm feeling VERY proud of this bit, just so you know ;) so don't be harsh on me today!!

Just a final delicious close up :D EEK!

Sweater Weather & Peace On Earth {7DS xMas cards}

Hello beautiful people :)

Today I'm up over on the 7 Dots Studio blog with a pair of Silvery Glittery Christmas cards created for the weather... the season.. or both! Can't wait to pop these beauties in the mail :)

The bases for these cards are Canson watercolor paper. I've layered both up with my brand new Destination Unknown paper in the neutral gray that is seen throughout the line. Next comes a layer of fibers >>> cheesecloth, thread or crochet ribbon from May Arts. Distress it all a bit and it's more of a textural element than a regular layer.

I've done a bit of stamping using Viva Las VegaStamps! (Sweater Weather, Peace On Earth, Invoice / Waybill) and Tsukineko Grey Flannel Memento. The chipboard comes from the Flourishes Two set by UmWowStudio, and the rest of the embellishments are Prima Marketing Inc (Flowers, and Gesso, Metal, Leaves, Glitter and Glass Glitter from the Finnabair Art Line)

Let me know what you think :) Stop by 7DS to leave a comment there, too! Different photos with more details :)

Destination Unknown

I thought I would take the time to share with you Destination Unknown in all its revealed glory :)

When I started out designing a new collection, I knew that I wanted to play with color, a nice.. deep.. RICH color. I adored (and so did all of you!) the neutral aspect of Nature Walk, and didn't want to lose that, but we needed some color! I had also been jotting down different ideas for a collection, and Nautical/Celestial just.. kept resurfacing, I must have written it down about 12 times in different places.

So >> I dove right in!

Celestial is a grey toned star map with a solid distressed teal reverse side.

Journey is a super contrasting teal polka dot with script.
The reverse side is grungy grey stripes with a few nautical graphics.

Night Sky is heavy teal with lighter teal and black accents, and
the reverse is a gray script and teal border.

Travel Bag introduces a rich brown colored page.
The reverse side is a set of cut apart coordinating pieces including a banner, cards, and borders.

Under the stars is a repeating star chart, this time in rich brown and tan.
The reverse side is a vintage map in gray and teal.

And Walk the Plank is a brown planked wood page with a grey border.
The reverse is a distressed grey.

A 6x6 pad with 24 sheets :)

There are three 6x12 coordinating sheets;
one diecut elements, one sentiment stickers, and one sticker elements.

 One diecut tag sheet.

One 6x4 inch clear stamp set.

Two 6x6 stencils.

And a 6x6 inch set of Sea Life beermat board in white.

And THAT is just the 7 Dots Studio half friends.

Now for the UmWowStudio side!
