All You Need Is Love {Hearts Challenge @ 7DS}

There's a new challenge @ 7 Dots Studio all about HEARTS. And you should really stop by to see all the wonderful projects by the talented design team. One of my favorite things about designing paper for 7 Dots Studio is seeing all that talent USE the paper :)

To inspire you I've altered a paper mache heart I picked up from Joann. It was so cute in the $1 bin, and I thought it was perfect for the season of love :)

The base has been dry brushed with Gesso and a pink color of Acrylic paint. I heat set the paints then stamped the invoice piece from Thoughts Keeper's Acrylic stamps in archival ink. It helped create a nice grounded background for layering on.

Then I layered up and embellished some pink, gray and cream pretties including a Destination Unknown Tag, a Soulmates Sticker Element and a sticker from the Soulmates words from 7 Dots Studio. I also used a diecut heart from an old atlas cut by Sizzix / Tim Holtz mover n shaper die, some May Arts Ribbons, a pink button and a beautiful Prima Marketing flower.

May Arts Application Round 2 - Art Journal Page

Tonight I'm sharing with you an art journal page I finished up that includes lots of fabric and paint! I videotaped the entire process for a How-To video start to finish as my 2nd round submission for the May Arts Ribbonistas team.

The finished page looks like this :

And the video tutorial:

It's pretty straight forward as far as application but a few details and pointers never hurt!! The page is a base in my 8.5 x 5.5 mixed media journal. I cut a piece of May Arts 4 inch wide burlap to fit the page. Trim off one edge to give it a raggedy finish and gesso it onto the page. Use the gesso as an adhesive in some areas to keep it in place.

Then I dripped actual coffee over my page and spent a long time layering it up. The May Arts Sequin Heart was altered with some paint. I gave it some VLVS! bat wings and adhered it down.

The saying was punched using a Dymo Label Maker and I finished off the page with a little bit of ImagineCRAFTS Memento Luxe ink using a dauber through some punchinella.

That's it friends! Wish me luck :)
